Voters took to the polls across the nation on Tuesday to cast their ballots in a midterm election that saw Democrats retake control of the Senate and House. On the state level, Idaho saw little change, with a Republican supermajority maintaining control of the legislature.

After the polls closed at 8 p.m. the Latah County Democrats invited the community to join them for an election-night watch party at One World Café in downtown Moscow. Seven local candidates appeared at the event where people enjoyed free food and drinks while chatting about politics. Cheers rang out across the room whenever an election broadcast on tv announced that a Democratic candidate had won their office.

As the night went on, local candidates anxiously checked partial election results online, hoping to get an idea of where they were in the polls.
