As a Latah County resident for nearly 50 years, he has experienced and watched the county grow and change. “Latah County faces significant decisions that require thoughtful leadership and long-term planning,” he said.  Schoenberg wants to run for Latah County commissioner to give back to the community that he built a life in. “After years of serving people, solving problems and leading organizations. I finally felt it was the right time to give back to the community that has given so much to me,” Schoenberg said.

Schoenberg aims to focus on the issues that matter most to Latah County’s future with a campaign built around “responsible leadership, thoughtful planning and a commitment to serving all residents in the community.”

Before running for county commissioner, Schoenberg worked as the director of auxiliary services for UI and as a partner in Palouse Properties. He feels as though these experiences give him a unique perspective on challenges in both the public and private sectors. Over the last 20 years he has managed budgets, facilities, operations and employees while working with people of many different backgrounds and viewpoints. Through these experiences, he said he has learned that leadership starts with listening, informed decisions and accountability.

As a UI graduate, Schoenberg recognizes many of the challenges that students face today. These challenges include but are not limited to education, housing, employment and deciding where to build a future. He believes that students are an important part of the community and wants to include them in discussions about Latah County’s future.

Schoenberg said he wants the voters to know that he cares deeply about this community, and he is “committed to serving it with integrity, respect, and common sense.” He said his approach has always been to listen first, bring people together, and focus on finding practical solutions.
