The University of Idaho’s 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report has been released. It includes crime statistics for the year 2025, as well as the two preceding years. Data is collected from several institutions, including the Moscow Police Department, Vandal Security, the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department, as well as campus security authorities. This is to comply with the Jeanne Clery Act, formerly known as the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act, as it was passed by Congress in 1990.

Disciplinary referrals from liquor law violations increased in 2025, which is the largest change found in the report. 81 were reported on campus in 2025, while in 2024 there were 59 counts, and 80 in 2023. 65 on campus student housing disciplinary referrals were made in 2025, with 47 in 2024 and 78 in 2023.

Disciplinary referrals are when a person is referred to any official who “initiates a disciplinary action of which a record is established, and which may result in the imposition of a sanction,” as defined by Pennsylvania State’s page on Clery crime.

As noted in the 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, two large-scale liquor law violation cases were performed by Dean of Students office in 2023. A substantial number of students were involved. The report uses these cases to explain the heightened amount of liquor law violations disciplinary referrals done in 2023. However, there is no explanation for the elevated counts disciplinary referrals done for liquor law violations in 2025.

According to the report, arrests for liquor law violations slightly decreased from 2023 to 2025. Seventeen were reported on campus in 2023, which dropped to fifteen arrests in 2024 and then fourteen in 2025. One arrest on campus student housing occurred in both 2023 and 2024, while zero occurred in 2025.

Also mentioned in the report, arrests for drug abuse violations also decreased during the three years covered by the report. Sixteen counts were reported on campus in 2023. This is in comparison to 2024 and 2025, when eight and seven counts were recorded. In 2025 two arrests on campus student housing for drug abuse violations were made, with two in 2024 and five in 2023.

Other items in the report include primary crimes statistics. These are recorded by the 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report and are defined as crimes of murder or non-negligent manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, and hazing incidents.

Burglary rates rose in 2025, with two on campus burglaries reported and one on campus student housing burglaries counted. This is an increase from the previous year, in which zero counts of burglaries were reported.

Aggravated assault rates also rose. There were three counts on campus in 2025, an increase from one count in 2024.

Five counts of non-campus hazing were recorded in 2025. Hazing incident statistics from the years 2023 and 2024 were not included in the report. The first disclosure year for them was 2025, resulting in no comparison years.

Sex offenses, as included and defined by the 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, are the crimes of rape, fondling, incest, and statutory rape. Generally, crimes categorized as sex offenses decreased in 2025.

Rape rates at the University of Idaho slightly decreased in 2025. Three cases on campus and an additional three on campus student housing were reported in 2025. This is a decrease from 2024, when eight cases on campus and seven on campus student housing were reported.

Fondling rates decreased, with zero cases being reported on campus and on campus student housing combined. This is in comparison to 2024, where there were three cases on campus and two cases on campus student housing.

Violence against women act offenses, abbreviated as VAWA offenses, were reported in the 2026 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. These include dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking crimes.

The rate of domestic violence decreased over three years. On campus, four cases were recorded in 2023, two in 2024, and one in 2025. Two were recorded on campus student housing in 2025, with two in 2024 and five in 2023.
