Take Back the Night is an annual event hosted by the University of Idaho to respect former student Katy Benoit and to bring awareness for safety on campus.

In 2011, Benoit lost her life to interpersonal violence. Since then, UI has hosted the Katy Benoit Campus Safety Forum: Take Back the Night.

This event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Janssen Engineering Building. The description of the event states: “Join this powerful evening of solidarity, storytelling and support to raise awareness of interpersonal violence and honor survivors.”

The event will include a keynote speaker followed by a silent march around campus.

There are multiple events honoring Katy Benoit Campus Safety Awareness Month.

On Monday, Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. there will be a “Responding to Disclosure of Interpersonal Violence,” which will be a 90-minute Zoom training session.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. there will be a Student Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training at the Student Recreation Center in room 103.

More information on the event can be found on UI’s event website.
