With the University’s first school closure coming up on Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, students are anxious for the three-day weekend, so here are a couple of events going on around Moscow to recharge before the long trek to fall break.
Saturday Sept. 5
Campus Bird Count (8a.m.-10a.m.)
The Paradise Audubon Society is hosting a beginner-friendly bird-watching walk through both arboretums on the UI Campus. They will be meeting on the Theophilus Tower Lawn, and participation is free.
Chasing the Groove at The Moscow Farmer’s Market (10:30a.m.-12:30p.m.)
Chasing the Groove is a band that plays a mixture of funk, rock, and jazz. They will be performing live in Friendship Square during the Moscow Farmer’s Market; the show will be free to watch.
Giant Palouse Earthworm: Mormon Mincers + Poise + It’s A Setup (8p.m.)
In the backstage speakeasy of the Kenworthy Theater on Main St., there will be a three-band concert with the grindcore and death metal bands Mormon Mincers, Poise, and It’s a Setup. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased on The Kenworthy’s website or at the door.
Sunday Sept. 6
Board Game Club (9:30a.m.-11:30a.m.)
Hosted by The BookPeople of Moscow store on Main St., their Sunday Board Game Club is welcome to people interested in all kinds of games; there will be many available to play and even some more complex ones being taught. Participants are also welcome to bring their own games, and it’s completely free.
Yoga in the Cedars (10a.m.-11a.m.)
Hosted by the Palouse Land Trust at the Idler’s Rest Nature Preserve and led by Nikki Hodge, by following the Cedar Trail to the cedar clearing, you’ll arrive in a yoga class for all levels. All you need to bring is a yoga mat; the event is free, but donations are recommended as the proceeds go to the Palouse Land Trust to maintain the preserve.
Watercolor at BookPeople (4p.m.-6p.m.)
After hours in the BookPeople of Moscow store on Main St., there will be a class with the Artist in Residence at BookPeople, Maggie Keefe. The event will cost $30, or $20 for anyone under 18; tickets can be bought at the BookPeople store.
Monday Sept. 7
Terracotta Mini Ghost Workshop (4p.m.-5:30p.m.)
This workshop will be hosted at Terracotta pottery studio on Main St., Moscow, which will guide participants through how to make a pinch pot ghost just in time for spooky season, and the best part is they glow. This event is open to potters of all levels, and seats cost $49 and can be purchased on their website.
Trivia Night (6:30p.m.)
Get together, go get something to eat, and test your knowledge at the Shattuck West Tap Room at 630 N Almon St. in Moscow with a night of trivia.
Open Mic Night (8p.m.)
At Rico’s Pub on 200 E Main, Pullman, there will be an open mic for musicians, poets, singers, and songwriters. Come to show off your skills or see some talent; all ages are welcome from 7p.m.-9p.m.
