The University of Idaho’s theater department is back with a magnificent line-up of theatrical performances planned for this school year.
With six shows for the season, it promises to be a scintillating run of performances. Some are only open for a weekend, so grab your tickets early at uitickets.com or live dangerously and show up at the last minute to purchase tickets at the door.
The shows cover a broad spectrum of topics and styles, including comedic pieces, a classic dystopian story rewritten for the stage, contemporary pieces and more.
“Every Brilliant Thing” | Sept. 12-13 | The Forge Theatre
One singular character and their reasons for living life. Audiences can expect a character that will pull at their heartstrings and leave them feeling that life is indeed full of brilliant things.
“1984” | Oct. 8-18 | The Forge Theatre
The story that defined the dystopian genre is brought to the stage and will leave audiences with great appreciation for their privacy, their relationships and the very language that they speak.
“Urinetown” | Nov. 5-15 | The Hartung Theatre
An off-putting name, maybe, but this musical satire is a critique of monopolies and was initially inspired by the playwright’s own actual experience with “pay per use” toilets while travelling in Europe.
“Meet Me at Dawn” | Dec. 3-6 | The Pocket Playhouse
This show is unique in the era of retellings of Orpheus and Eurydice, as two survivors of a shipwreck strive to get home and learn about what has happened to them.
“A Year with Frog and Toad” | Feb. 25 – March 7 | The Forge Theatre
A childhood classic shaped into a theatrical piece, “A Year with Frog and Toad” promises charm, beauty and that classic calming feeling of the old “I Can Read!” books, while appealing to their now grown-up audience.
“Sense and Sensibility” | April 29 – May 9 | The Hartung Theatre
The Jane Austen classic of sisterhood, romance, heedlessness and patience; now brought to UI’s stage, to make us laugh and think about our own reactions to societal pressure and what the people around us think.
The theatre is a marvelous way to portray stories from different walks of life and help us to walk in one another’s shoes. Join the ancient tradition of theatre as an audience member and enjoy the season. To the actors, break a leg!
