Love in the post-Kermiggy breakup

The Muppet Couples | Abigail Spencer | Argonaut

While Kermit and Piggy have been known for many years as the classic Muppet couple, they are far from the only Muppets who have found love amongst their ranks. From a man and his chicken to a pair of men almost as dedicated to science as they are to each other.

  1. Gonzo and Camilla

Gonzo the Great, one of the most anxious daredevils in all of show business, has been in the most stable romantic relationship of the Muppets with his dear chicken, Camilla. While many do not understand the relationship, the two have been together without a breakup since 1978, when Camilla was introduced. In fact, the only recognized issue in the relationship is that from time to time, Gonzo has issues telling the difference between Camilla and her several identical sisters, the chicken chorus.

  1. Statler and Waldorf

For those who may be a little less enamored with the sunshiny attitude of the rest of the Muppets, Statler and Waldorf are a bit of a respite, with their role being chief hecklers in the Muppet Theatre. While in episode 413 of the original Muppet Show, Waldorf brings his “wife” Astoria, it appears to actually be Statler in drag. And there is nothing wrong with exploring your personal relationship with style.

  1. Rizzo and Yolanda

Rizzo the Rat is known for being the close friend of Gonzo the Great, and a New Jersey rat who is known for giving almost as much flak as he gets. The only one who can step up to him and his bluster is Yolanda, a hard-working Subway rat who has enough wit of her own to stand up to him. She also is known to be incredibly hardworking and balances his skeevier tendencies.

  1. Beaker and Dr. Bunson

These two men have been long-standing lab partners, and have a demonstrated close relationship, with Dr. Bunson repeatedly calling his assistant by the sweet pet name of “Beaky”, or the especially affectionate “Beakie-poo.” In episode 211 of Muppets Tonight, when Beaker goes on a vacation without the good Doctor, he calls himself a “sad and lonely man” without his lovely assistant, whom he repeatedly compliments and calls handsome. Beaker even rejects the supermodel Petra Nemacova for Bunson at the end of A Muppet Christmas: Letters to Santa, and what else could that be but true love?
