On-campus apartment burgled

Moscow PD responded to a report of unlawful entry on Sweet Avenue

Students and employees were made aware of the burglary of an on-campus apartment via email on April 25.

Moscow Police received a report that an unknown person unlawfully entered an apartment on Sweet Avenue around 2 p.m. on April 24.

The burgled apartment is part of on-campus family housing available to graduate students, students with dependents and University of Idaho staff and faculty.

According to the email, the person used a hidden key to enter the residence without permission, then ate some of the food in the apartment and stayed for an unknown amount of time.

The email came from Jake Nichols, UI’s executive director of safety and security.

Nichols encouraged students and employees to “Be the eyes of your neighborhood” by reporting suspicious activity and using safety tips to prevent similar incidents.

Safety tips included hiding or otherwise safekeeping spare keys, keeping an inventory of valuable items, locking doors and windows, leaving lights on and using curtains on windows.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Moscow Police Department by calling 208-882-2677. The case reference number is #23-M03154.
