This past Wednesday, ASUI met and discussed their participation in helping Vandals Vote. They also deliberated over two resolutions regarding midterm grades and an acknowledgement to Coach Eck.

To help Vandals Vote on Tuesday, many senators spent hours tabling to inform students on how to get registered and what to bring, as well as helping get students to the polls.

“I rode the golf carts for election day for about four hours, which was awesome to drive people to the polls,” Sen. Jared Sherman said.

The first bill that was voted on was a resolution stating student needs with the faculty of the University of Idaho Putting in midterm and final grades by the deadline.

“My sorority checks grades and that affects whether you can be involved in certain aspects of the house,” Senate Pro-Tempore Martha Smith said. “Sometimes when those (midterm grades) aren’t put in by the deadline, or they’re not accurately reflected by the deadline, it puts people in a position outside of their academic life that is less than advantageous. That isn’t the result of their actions.”

This bill was passed unanimously.

The second bill voted on also passed unanimously. It was resolution to acknowledge and thank Jason Eck for his contributions to the UI’s football team this season and the boost in student morale he created.

“Bill Belichick, Gregg Popovich, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Pat Summitt. What do all of these names resemble?” Sen. Nate Trachimowicz said. “Some of the best coaches of all time… Coaches need positivity, focus, trustworthiness and leadership to usher a team to a championship and a winning season. Do you know who these coaches remind me of? Jason Eck.”

On the topic of student morale, President Tanner McClain discussed “Country Fest,” which is a project that he has been working on. It is an idea for a two-day music festival that would take place next year, the weekend after syllabus week.

“The idea behind this is having various acts including local artists, some classic country artists, some middle level up and coming artists as well as wanting to finish off the whole festival with a really big name,” McClain said. “The issues then really are finding out funding for this festival to make it a reality. I am really happy to announce that outside funding has been secured for this festival.”

More information on the project is to come.
