UI cross country team win men and women’s titles at LC State Invitational

The University of Idaho Cross Country team swept the charts as the men’s and women’s teams secured first place at the LC State Invitational on Oct. 8. 

The Idaho men’s team led the top five positions and secured 15 points. 

Junior Lorenz Herrmann dominated the first position in the men’s team with a time of 24:05, followed by senior Gabriel Dinnel with 24:18 and junior Shea Mattson with a time of 24:41.  

In fourth and fifth place, junior Sam Fulbright and senior Tim Stevens recorded a time of 24:49. 

With a whopping 17 points, the women’s team held the top three positions and fifth through eighth place. 

Junior Maya Kobylanski won first place with a time of 16:35. Senior Kelsey Swenson took second place with a time of 16:42, followed by graduate student Nathalia Campos in third with a time of 17:11.

In a post meet recap with the Vandals Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Tim Cawley expressed his confidence and pride in both teams as they lead into the Big Sky Conference. 

“I thought they did fantastic,” Cawley said. “I can’t even separate between the two teams, they both just ran with a lot of poise, confidence and I think we’re in a good spot going into the conference.” 

The Idaho women’s team continued to reign as junior Leah Holmgren, freshman Abigail Thomas, freshman Chloe Overberg and senior Elise Abbott dominated the fifth to eighth positions. 

Freshmen Zac Knapp and Tyler Graff from the men’s team secured the ninth and tenth positions respectively.  

Kobylanski, the champion from the women’s team, stated her excitement as the Big Sky Conference Tournament approaches on a . 

“I think this is the best team that we ever had, and we have a shot of winning or top-two so definitely some big goals to chase,” Kobylanski said.
