Homecoming week is one of the most exciting events at the University of Idaho, and an announcement from Dean of Students Blaine Eckles just took it to the next level.

During halftime of the home opener against Drake, President Scott Green awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Lara Holzhauer. This Saturday, during halftime of the game against Northern Colorado, he’ll award two $1,000 scholarships.

“Vandal alumnus Roger Brazier donated the second scholarship,” Eckles stated. “The winners will be chosen at random, and the awards will be made by President Scott Green during the game.”

Although the football game may be the highlight of homecoming week, Friday evening and Saturday are full of events. The volleyball team will take on Eastern Washington in Memorial Gym at 5 p.m. on Friday before the Serpentine and bonfire at 8 p.m. The Serpentine will start at the golf course then loop through campus and end in the Kibbie Dome parking lot. On Saturday, the homecoming parade will begin at 12:30 on Main Street.

With many events happening earlier this week that may have caused stress and worry to Vandals, Eckles wants students to know that homecoming is a time for everyone to gather for one cause.

“Homecoming is a time for all Vandals to come together and celebrate our great university,” Eckles stated.

The tailgate for the homecoming game will officially start at 3 p.m. with the game starting at 6 p.m.
