UI music composition student passes away

A loss in the UI community this past weekend

news update

A University of Idaho student majoring in music composition passed away Sunday night in a car accident, according to an email by Dean of Students Blaine Eckles.

According to the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, 22-year-old Samson Matthews passed away after a head-on collision with a tractor north of New Meadows and was pronounced dead at the scene.

UI senior Matthews was originally from Boise and known as a gifted musician who played several instruments. Matthews’ website features many of their musical achievements and works.

Students impacted and needing assistance during this time should contact the Counseling & Testing Center at 208-885-6716. If you are worried about a student, faculty or staff member and are unsure of what to do, you can file a VandalCARE report.

Our sincerest condolences go to Matthews’ family and friends who are the most impacted by their death. The Argonaut will provide a full obituary if family and friends feel comfortable sharing.
