OPINION: Making makeup easier

Simple hacks can add glam and take the stress off your wallet

I have tried life-hacks before, and they usually don’t work like they are supposed to. That won’t stop me from trying though. I found some convenient hacks for makeup that worked great. These hacks save your dignity and wallet if you are in a pinch and tired of buying overpriced makeup all over again.

The first hack I found worked as a way to revive an old broken eyeshadow compact. To start off, you need to empty out the tin into something else so you can press the chunks of eyeshadow into a fine powder.

After all the smashing is finished, transfer the powder back into the compact and put in a few drops for rubbing alcohol to form a paste. Use 70% or more of isopropyl alcohol because it evaporates quicker.

Then use a coin wrapped in a paper towel to press the paste into the compact, to soak up some of the excess alcohol and to get the shape you want. Let it dry, and you now have a resurrected eyeshadow compact. This hack is really useful because you can fix it instead of wasting money on a new one.

With how expensive some highlighters and bronzers are, this hack proved to be a holy-grail. This was really easy to do, and now I don’t have to worry about wasting makeup and money when I accidentally break one of my pressed powder compacts.

The next hack is to save your cat-eye look when you run out of liquid eyeliner, or want to try out a fun color to step out of your makeup comfort zone. You can use matte liquid lipstick as eyeliner. I recommend using matte because it won’t transfer or smudge as much as another lipstick. To make it even more smudge proof, set it with translucent setting powder or a similar eyeshadow color.

To make it easier, you can use an eyeliner brush or even a fine-tipped lipstick brush. If that doesn’t give you the sharp point you want, you could cheat with another hack and use tape to outline your eyeliner.

Another hack to help your eyeliner or eyebrow game is to use false eyelash glue on your eyeliner brush, making the tip extra sharp. Just brush on a little bit of eyelash glue onto the bristles of the brush.

After letting the glue dry for a few seconds, to let the glue get tacky, squish the brush from the base of the bristles to the top to get the point you want, and let it dry. Now you can get fine-haired brush strokes for natural-looking brows or eyeliner so sharp it could cut.

These do-it-yourself life-hacks are simple and fast. I recommend trying these out to take your makeup game to another level and ease the stress on your wallet.
