Reservations required: Student Recreation Center opens with new changes

New protocols for Outdoor Rental Center as well

News Update

The University of Idaho Student Recreation Center reopened today. The facility is operating under limited hours, requires social distancing between patrons and staff and encourages patrons to wear face coverings while inside. Full protocols for reopening can be found on the SRC website

The locker rooms, courts, multi-activity court, equipment rentals and atrium on the first floor are closed along with the WellSpace, classroom and fitness studios, selectorized weight machines, sunset lounge, rowing cave and stretching areas on the second floor.

Other areas of the SRC are open, but staff and patrons must abide by specific protocols. These areas include the cardio machines, weights, track, atrium, second floor restrooms, all-gender restroom, day use lockers and Climbing Center.

According to the SRC website, the facility will now open according to a block schedule. Monday through Friday, the SRC is open 6-7 a.m., 7:30-8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30-1:30 p.m., 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday through Sunday, the SRC is open 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m.

The Climbing Center will open on an adjusted schedule as well. Monday through Friday, the Climbing Center is open 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30-1:30 p.m., 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. The Climbing Center is closed Sundays but is open 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m. Saturdays.

The SRC and Climbing Center facilities will be cleaned in between each of these blocks of time.

A maximum of 35 patrons are allowed in the SRC during each block. 30 slots are available for cardio training and 5 slots are available for strength training. A maximum of 7 patrons are allowed in the Climbing Center during each block.

Patrons must schedule a workout time online by emailing [email protected]. A confirmation email will be sent once a reservation is scheduled. The reservation schedule is available on the SRC website. Reservations can be made a maximum of 24 hours in advance. Patrons will only have access to their reserved equipment, although the track and stretching mats are available pre- and post-workout.

Patrons can purchase a $20 Reopen Pass to access the SRC during reopening. These passes are good for one month and include access to the SRC and Climbing Center. Full students enrolled in summer and fall will have SRC access. Part time students must pay a $20 fee for the summer session. For those wanting to pay daily instead of for a Reopen Pass, the day rate fee is now $4.

The main entryway has designated entrance and exit doors and the east entryway will not be accessible to patrons. Several areas in the facility, including the atrium and water bottle filling stations, have “X” markers on the ground to encourage social distancing. Plexi-glass has been installed at point-of-sale locations as well.

All employees are required to wear face coverings during their shifts and patrons are encouraged to do so as well. Patrons are required to sanitize their hands before entering the turnstiles and are encouraged to wash their hands frequently.

The Outdoor Rental Center is open, but reservations and appointments for pick-up and drop-off services are required. Patrons of ORC will not be allowed inside the building. In addition, patrons will be required to load and unload all equipment, including boats, by themselves during pick-up and drop-off. All equipment must be returned dry and cleaned.

Payment for ORC rental equipment will only be accepted by credit or debit card. Employees will take the card into the rental center to complete the transaction and return the card to the patron outside. Reservations and appointments can be made by contacting Sandra at 208-885-6170 or [email protected]. The ORC will be open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
