University of Idaho President C. Scott Green sent an email Wednesday detailing information of a simplified commencement ceremony and the continuation of in-person activities starting in August.

“Our graduates have spoken and we hear you,” Green said in the email. “A survey conducted by ASUI showed overwhelming support for holding a simplified ceremony for our 2020 graduates this August so your families can celebrate you.”

According to the email, UI will be hosting commencement Aug. 1 in the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center in addition to the option of returning for spring or winter commencement ceremonies. Ceremonies will not be held at other UI facilities but graduates from other areas in the state are welcome to attend the ceremony in Moscow.

In addition, Green announced UI is planning to continue with the traditional Vandal Welcome later that month and classes will resume in-person Aug. 24.

“We continue to work with Public Health – Idaho North Central District to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our campus, as well as the governor’s office and the Idaho State Board of Education to ensure we proceed in a careful and safe way,” Green said in the email.
