New COVID-19 self-check tool available on CDC’s website

System meant to help people decide whether to seek further help

The CDC’s self-checker website

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has created a tool to help people self-check for COVID-19.

The self-checker stated its purpose is to help people make decisions about seeking medical care, not to diagnose or treat any disease or condition. The system is intended for those located in the U.S. at this time.

The self-checker appears like a text conversation. The user is provided with buttons and selection boxes to answer questions.

If the user states they are not ill or caring for someone who is ill, the self-checker redirects the user to the CDC website and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare website.

If the user states they or someone they are caring for is ill, the checker will ask for the sick person’s age, gender, symptoms, whether they have had possible contact with COVID-19 and more. The checker will then offer advice on whether to stay home or seek further medical attention.

To use the self-checker, visit the CDC Coronavirus Disease 2019 website and scroll down to the self-checker.
