The University of Idaho has settled a lawsuit with former Vandal athlete Mairin Jameson. The State of Idaho will pay Jameson $160,000, and dismiss her lawsuit, according to a UI press release today.

Mairin Jameson filed a lawsuit against UI on October 2018, following a blog post she published detailing the mishandling of her sexual assault.

UI did not forward her sexual assault report to the Office of the Dean of Students and told Jameson UI could not investigate the incident because it occurred off-campus. Both were violations of Title IX policy updated before Jameson’s report, which were made public by news reports, according to earlier reporting on Oct. 31, 2019.

Jameson was sexually assaulted, at the former CJ’s Nightclub by former wide receiver Jahrie Level, on April 20, 2013, according to a UI report obtained by The Argonaut in 2018.

Level was also cited on Nov. 27, 2012, with providing two underage students with alcohol on Nov. 14, 2012, according to a report by the Idaho Statesman published on March 29, 2018.

Jameson, who is planned to visit UI in the next few months to talk with student-athletes, is also planning to work with UI Athletic Director Terry Gawlik, the UI press release reported. The two hope to improve UI’s Athletic Department’s culture and the experience for those student-athletes.

“I am proud to see the positive changes that have taken place at Idaho since coming forward with my story,” Jameson said in the UI press release. “I am impressed with their hiring of Terry as the new athletic director. I know that she carries the same sentiments as I do to continue to make positive changes at the university. I am looking forward to working with her to further improve the University of Idaho and will continue to help raise national awareness to these campus issues.”
