Community calendar: free movie night and ways to start your semester off right 

As students make their way back to campus there are events waiting for them. Take a look at this week’s selection.

7 p.m.  – 8: 30 p.m.  Tuesday | Napoleon Dynamite free showing 

Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre 

New Student Orientation and Vandal Entertainment are hosting a free movie night for University of Idaho students. The Joe Bus will be taking students to the Kenworthy to catch the film starting at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free for students with their Vandal ID.  

11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Tuesday | Semester Refresh  

Idaho Student Union Building  

University Advising Services at UI is hosting a Semester Refresh session free for UI students. During the session students can gain skills for work, school and life. Attendants can learn about how to balance their busy schedule and other tips for success in the new semester and more. There will be free lunch provided. Check in beings at 11:30 a.m.  

12 p.m. -12:30 p.m. Wednesday | Drop in Mindfulness  

Teaching and Learning Center room 223 

On the first day of classes anyone can stop by for the weekly twenty-minute Drop-in Mindfulness session. This guided mindfulness session is free for attendants.   

12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday | Freshstart Tobacco Cessation  

Student Health Center room 120 

This weekly four-part class is designed to help attendants learn how to decrease their tobacco use and eventually lead to quitting. Registration is encouraged. Registration can be done by emailing [email protected].  

5:30 p.m. – 6: 30 p.m. Friday | Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Keynote Address: Jeremy Woodson 

Vandal Ballroom, Bruce Pitman Center 

Idaho’s American Civil Liberties Union’s Outreach Coordinator, Jeremy Woodson, will be speaking to students, staff and faculty about civic engagement and responsibility through writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  

7 p.m. Saturday | Vandal Night with the Spokane Chiefs  

Spokane Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave. Spokane, Washington  

This Saturday the Spokane Alumni Chapter is hosting a Vandal Night with the Spokane Chiefs. Tickets are only available online. Tickets include lower-level or best available seats if the lower- level is sold out, and a one-of-a-kind University of Idaho Night t-shirt for $25. There will also be a pre-game social at David’s Pizza in Spokane starting at 5 p.m.
