9 a.m. Tuesday | Annual Research Symposium — Bacteriophages, Bacteria and Bugs
Auditorium, Administration Building
The University of Idaho Center of Health and Human Ecosystems will host their annual research symposium, titled “Bacteriophages, Bacteria and Bugs: The making of a great pandemic and global vector control strategy.” Seth Bordenstein, an associate professor at Vanderbilt University, will deliver the plenary address, the UI event page stated.
4:30 p.m. Wednesday | A Poetic Architecture: in conversation with Gordon Walker
Gallery Critique Space, Art and Architecture South room 211
Gordon Walker, a 1962 U of I graduate, will speak about a new book on his work, Gordon Walker: A Poetic Architecture by Grant Hildebrand, at this event. Walker co-founded Olson/Walker Architects, worked with NBBJ in Seattle and San Francisco and worked under his own name for 12 years.
2 p.m. Thursday | Podcasting Part 1
MILL, University of Idaho Library
This workshop aims to introduce attendees to simple concepts in podcast production. Part 1 will focus on audio recording techniques, file types and different types of recording hardware and software. Attendees will also be introduced to the free audio editing software Audacity.
4 p.m. Friday | U of I and EWU Crossover Reading
One World Café
Fugue, a U of I publication, and Willow Springs, an EWU publication, will co-host a reading of current work by MFA candidates at both institutions. The lineup will feature three writers from each program; a fiction writer, a nonfiction writer and a poet.
7:30 p.m. Saturday | This Random World by Steven Dietz
Forge Theater
The first performance of David Lee-Painter’s “This Random World” will occur Saturday evening. The play is described on the event webpage as funny, intimate and heartbreaking. Tickets are free of U of I students and $6-17 for the general public. Tickets are available by calling 208-885-6465 or at the door starting at 7 p.m.
Homecoming event calendar highlights
2-5 p.m. Monday | “Vandal-ize” Moscow
Main Street
Student teams are invited to decorate the windows of local businesses Monday afternoon as part of the Homecoming festivities. Information on the Beat ISU Food Drive will be given out at Friendship Square at this time as well.
10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday | 70th Annual Homecoming Blood Drive
TLC Lounge
Sign up for a spot to donate blood as part of the 70th annual edition of this Homecoming activity. Those who donate blood will receive a cookie afterwards.
6:30 p.m. Wednesday | Vandal Jingles
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
The Homecoming schedule of events describes Vandal Jingles as “skits to promote Vandal Pride, the Homecoming theme, and to just have fun.” Actors, singers and directors are invited to create a skit and join in on the fun.
7 p.m. Thursday | Most Vandalized Fan @ Women’s Volleyball vs. NAU
Memorial Gymnasium
Teams are invited to show their Vandal Pride at the Women’s Volleyball game against Northern Arizona this Thursday by decking out a member of their team in as much Vandal gear as they can muster.
8 p.m. Friday | Homecoming Serpentine, Bonfire and more
Greek Row, Kibbie Dome Parking Lot and Theophilus Tower
Homecoming weekend will start off with the serpentine, led by the Sound of Idaho Marching Band through Greek Row towards the bonfire at the Kibbie Dome Parking Lot. The bonfire will begin at 8:30 p.m. The Idaho Central Credit Union Homecoming Firework Extravaganza will follow the bonfire at 9 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome Parking Lot. The night will finish off with TowerLights presented by the Association of Computing Machinery at 9:45 p.m. at Theophilus Tower.
10 a.m. Saturday | 111th Annual Best Western Plus University Inn Homecoming Parade
Main Street and Downtown Moscow
University of Idaho student groups, marching bands from around the Palouse and more will come together to celebrate the 111th annual Homecoming parade. KUOI will broadcast the parade live.
