Board to miss April timeline for naming of UI president

UI’s 19th president will be named at a meeting to be “scheduled soon” as opposed to April, as previously planned, State Board spokesman says

The Idaho State Board of Education told The Argonaut a new University of Idaho president would not be named by April, as previously planned.

State Board spokesman Mike Keckler did not provide a date by which the president would be selected.

“While we didn’t make the April 1st date, we are confident that a Board meeting will be scheduled soon to vote on the appointment of the University of Idaho’s next president,” Keckler said in an email.

The selection will occur in an open meeting of the State Board.

The four finalists in consideration are as follows:

  • Christopher Callahan, founding dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University
  • Diane Chase, executive vice president and provost of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • Scott Green, global chief operating officer and financial office at Hogan Lovells, an international Law Firm
  • Elizabeth Spilller, dean of the college of Letters and Science at the University of California, Davis

A fifth candidate, Paul Tikalsky, previously withdrew from consideration. He is dean of the college of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University.

Whoever is chosen would be the 19th UI president.
