A thousand people, a thousand memories — Up-and-coming EDM artist Vanic to perform in Bruce Pitman Center

After organizing a successful concert in February featuring Illenium and Jenaux, ASUI Vandal Entertainment Small Concert Director, Aria Horowitz, is working to bring students together for another musical experience.

Up-and-coming EDM artist, Vanic, is performing at 8 p.m. Friday in the International Ballroom of the University of Idaho Bruce Pitman Center. The concert is free for UI students with their Vandal Card and $10 for the general public. Space is limited to 1000 guests.

According to the UI event’s Facebook page, Vanic is known for his “powerfully melodic and gracefully composed remix work,” and he is slowly producing original songs. Horowitz said people should attend the concert if they’re interested in music or looking to have a good time.

“His music is beautifully composed,” Horowitz said. “It’s good for people who love music and people who love to party.”

Horowitz said she began the search for an artist last March, looking for someone who UI students and college-aged listeners follow in the music world. She said she narrowed down the choice to three artists: TroyBoi, Party Favor and Vanic, before making the final decision.

Vanic was the “best bang for our buck,” Horowitz said.

She said the goal of the concert is to provide an event for the student body to come together and have fun, while adding to the culture of the university. The venue will provide a different experience than going to a concert house or music festival, she said.

“Hopefully it will kind of make UI a happening spot,” Horowitz said. “I think it will ‘wow’ the university population, having such an intimate venue with such an awesome artist.”

Horowitz said she loves watching a plan come to fruition and watching the student body get involved in something she created out of nothing.

Horowitz, who has spent the last few summers working in the music industry, said she grew up listening to classic rock artists 24/7 with her parents. She said it influenced her appreciation for the way music is composed.

“I’ve had a true love for music my entire life,” she said.

She said she knew she wanted to make music her career when she realized that she could make a job out of making people dance.

Vandal Entertainment’s goal is to provide free entertainment for students that will be “remembered throughout college and for the rest of their lives,” she said.

Horowitz has been the small concert director for a year and a half, and previously she was a part of the Vandal Entertainment street team, the student marketing board that promotes entertainment events. After years of involvement, Horowitz will graduate in December, and junior Emma Salomon, the current Vandal Entertainment concerts chair, will take over as small concerts chair in the spring.

Salomon said she joined Vandal Entertainment this semester, looking at ways to get involved with the university. Salomon, who has helped Horowitz in planning the Vanic concert, said she is most excited to help with planning and setting up on the day of the event.

“I’m excited for the doors to open and the people to rush in,” she said.

Salomon said these free concerts are great for the university because at a lot of schools, students have to pay to attend similar events. She said having the event be free allows for more groups of people to go, and people on the fence about going are more likely to attend.

Salomon said she is looking forward to planning all aspects of the concert in the spring, but for now she’s focused on Vanic.

“Bring your friends out, and enjoy your Friday night,” she said. “You’re going to be stoked when he’s huge in a year.”
