Staben considered for UNM president position

According to a University of Idaho University Communications and Marketing memo, an announcement was released by the University of New Mexico that President Chuck Staben is a finalist for the president’s position there.

Idaho Public Radio tweeted Staben is one of the five finalists for the position and will visit UNM Oct. 17.

According to an Albuquerque Journal article, UNM’s president stepped down at the end of 2016. UNM’s provost has acted as interim-president for the last 10 months.

UI Director of Communications Jodi Walker said Staben will not yet comment further on his reason for applying to the position.

“He will move through the interview process,” Walker said. “And, in the meantime, he is our president and will continue to lead us.”

According to the memo, given Staben’s possible exit from the university, UI will continue its efforts in implementing the strategic plan.

The Argonaut will continue to cover this story as more information becomes available.

UI keeps hiring the same tired provost, who just can't wait to get out of town within months of moving to Moscow. Quit hiring these clown provosts and hire someone who is committed to the university and to Moscow. But the new search committee will convene and the alumni will rubber-stamp yet another bad hire from some guy who has no vision and can't crank up enrollment. UI has done this for 20+ years.

“And, in the meantime, he is our president and will continue to lead us.” What has he accomplished? Other than causing significant divisions in the university.

Hope the door hits him in the butt on the way out!
