Police log: Oct. 13-18

Oct. 13

West Palouse River Drive, Gritman Wellness, 11:12 a.m. Someone sliced open rain gutters with a sharp instrument and pulled them from the building at Gritman Wellness.

Oct. 14

Walenta Drive and Taylor Avenue, 4:28 a.m. A stolen white Chrysler was found crashed in the middle of the road.

200 block Taylor Avenue, 9:26 a.m. About $1,000 worth of items reported stolen from an unlocked pickup truck.

200 block Taylor Avenue, 9:41 a.m. 2000 Ford Explorer was forcibly entered with a stereo and toolset stolen from inside.

200 block Taylor Avenue, 2:39 p.m. Someone stole bagpipes, knives, ammo and a camo jacket from a vehicle.

100 block Baker Street, 3:42 p.m. Theft of a Honda Civic. The vehicle was later found parked just down the street from where it was stolen.

Oct. 15

West 6th Street, Wallace Complex, 2:21 p.m. $300 worth of clothing and makeup stolen from inside an unlocked car.

South Jackson Street and West 1st Street, 8:02 p.m. 21-year-old female arrested for a DUI with a BAC of .24 after a UI employee reported driving consistent with being intoxicated.

South Jackson Street, Jimmy John’s, 11:27 p.m. Intoxicated male and female were reported for engaging in a heated dispute. Both refused to press charges, but were cited for minor in consumption.

Oct. 18

1200 block Ponderosa Drive, 8:11 a.m. Report of Halloween decorations that were stolen from a front yard.

West 6th Street, Wallace Complex, 2:45 p.m. Someone tried to blackmail a man who had masturbated on Skype video with the alleged blackmailer, who threatened to send the video out if the man didn’t send money.

800 block East Public Avenue 7:13 p.m. An MPD Sergeant helped an elderly woman figure out how to use her phone after she called and said someone told her to call 911 to get help with the issue.

Extra note: Between Oct. 10 and Oct. 16, at least six cars and four bikes were stolen, and at least five vehicles were broken into. At least three of the stolen vehicles have been recovered from what police believe to have been a joy riding spree.

How to prevent vehicle thefts and prowls

• Park in a well-lit area.

• Keep your windows rolled up and doors locked.

• Don’t have any valuables inside your car.

• If you must have valuables in your car, put them hidden under a seat or in the trunk.
