The Idaho track and field team sent athletes to two separate events over the weekend, as members of the program traveled to California for the Stanford Track and Field Invitational and to the San Francisco Distance Carnival.

In addition, several team members traveled to Missoula to compete in the University of Montana Dual.

Junior Andrea Pikes took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.24 seconds, while freshman Kaleala Bass came in second during the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.81 seconds.

In distance racing, freshman Erin Hagen placed second in the 1500-meter run, finishing the event in 4:39.84. Junior Ally Ginther came in fifth with a time of 4:43.68.

Freshman Drew Schultz earned a new personal record in the 1500-meter run. Schultz finished the event in 3:59.18 to earn a second place finish.

Freshman Dwain Stucker emerged in second during the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:32.23.

Idaho junior Juan Medina saw a strong performance in both the shot put and discus throw. Medina threw 15.72 meters in the shot put to earn a personal best, and hurled the discus 45.87 meters.

Freshman Johnny Magee’s 6.65 meter leap in the long jump earned a second place finish and a personal record.

During the Stanford Track and Field Invitational, the Vandals faced strong competition.

Senior Ben Ayesu-Attah earned a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dahs with a time of 47.59 seconds.

Junior Drew Thompson finished the 110-meter hurdles in 15.00 seconds to finish in 12th and earn a personal best. Thompson also competed in the high jump, leaping 1.96 meters to earn a seventh place finish.

On the women’s side of the competition, senior Kinsey Gomez placed her name in the record books during the 3000-meter run.

Gomez shattered Patsy Sharple’s previous 1981 school record of 33:34.85 by finishing the event in third place with a mark of 33:23.59.

Only two Vandal athletes competed in the San Francisco Distance Carnival.

Junior Nathan Stark earned a personal best in the 3000-meter steeple chase, breaking his previous best by 14 seconds. Stark finished the event in 9:16.74.

Fellow junior Marquita Palmer competed in the 800-meter run, finishing the event in 12th place with a time of 2:13.46.

The Idaho track and field program will travel to Spokane Friday to compete in the WAR IX.
