Future of fun

Vandal Entertainment and ASUI have many events planned to entertain students this semester.
Vandal Entertainment Board Chair Taylor Williams said she’s excited for the events they’ve planned.
Aces Up, a country western band, will be coming to perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 29 in the SUB Ballroom. Before the concert, a swing-dancing lesson will take place at 6 p.m. in the SUB ballroom.
“I’m telling people to wear their boots and their cowboy hats and kick up their heels for Aces Up,” Small Concerts Chair Shelby Owens said.
Vandal Entertainment uses popular opinion to select which events to host on campus.
“Well, we try to get some crowd sourcing done.” Owens said. “We do that through polls on Facebook. We also were part of a vote on the Senator’s ballots last semester asking what genre’s people were looking for and things like that. I try to keep genres in mind when I am looking for bands because the thing is that is tough about small concerts is because if you know their name they are probably out of my budget.”
Students should not quickly dismiss up-and-coming artists though.
“Even though you don’t know their names, you show up to these events and they will still have awesome magic tricks, they will still be funny, they will still be a band that sounds really good.” Owens said.
Vandal Entertainment also founded the Vandal Entertainment Street Team this semester, which is a group of volunteers that promotes Vandal Entertainment events.
“Their goal is to just promote Vandal Entertainment and the idea is that a lot of people are talking about it from all different areas of campus,” Williams said. “Then more people know about it and hopefully it will increase attendance and just gain awareness on campus.”
