Mike Iupati named Associated Press All-Pro

With an upcoming NFC Championship game to play, former Idaho offensive lineman Mike Iupati was an Associated Press All-Pro Saturday, the same day that Iupati’s San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers to advance to the NFC Championship game for the second consecutive year. Iupati, who was drafted 17th by the Niners in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, was also named to the NFL Pro-Bowl for the first time in his three-year career. The Vandal alum was the leading vote getter among offensive guards in the fan vote, while also leading all guards in AP balloting.

Vandal Hall of Famer dies

A member of the Idaho Athletics Hall of Fame, Wayne D. Anderson passed away Wednesday at the age of 82. At Idaho, Anderson was a multi-sport athlete, playing football and baseball before spending time as an assistant coach for the football and basketball teams. He eventually stepped into head coaching roles for both the baseball and basketball teams, and was announced assistant athletic director later in his career. Anderson and his wife Ellie had four children, and the Andersons represent four generations of University of Idaho graduates. 60 years following the conclusion of his football career, Anderson is still 16th on the school’s all-time list for passing yards and seventh for career punts. Memorial service information will be announced as soon as it becomes available.

Idaho track and field to host camp Wednesday

The Vandal track and field program is set to host its fourth annual WE ARE Runners, Throwers, Jumpers kids camp on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The event, which is free for children, will take place from 6:00-7:30 at the Kibbie Dome Indoor Track. All Moscow-area elementary kids grades 1-6 can participate for free and those who pre-register online by Jan. 22 will get a complimentary t-shirt. Idaho track and field athletes will provide instruction for campers, teaching them the fundamentals of a few events. A camp waiver is required, which must be filled out by a parent at check-in. Idaho volunteer assistant coach Angela Whyte can be reached for questions.

Open and Collegiate track and fields meets combine

Originally two separate meets, the Idaho Open I indoor track and field meet originally scheduled to run on Sunday has been combined with Saturday’s Idaho Collegiate I. The meet is presented by Runners Soul of Spokane and entries for the race were accepted online until midnight on Wednesday. The updated meet schedule, with accepted entries, is now available online.
