Topping it off: Making your fedora a style staple

It’s finally April, which means hopefully, sunshine is right around the corner. This also means it is time to break out the summer wardrobe, fedoras and all. And that doesn’t go for just the ladies.
Originally, the fedora seemed to be a hat that men, specifically mobsters and the characters from “Mad Men”, wore. While Jason Mraz and Johnny Depp are two men that can wear a fedora with style, today’s fedoras seem to be a fashion choice made by women more often than men.
Fedora style hats aren’t the easiest accessories to rock but Indiana Jones isn’t the only stunner who can wear one. If you decide to wear a fedora, there are some steps necessary to take in order to make you and your hat have a fashionable status.
First, it’s important to buy the correct size hat. Measure your head before you go on a search for the perfect fedora. There is nothing worse than a loose fitting one. You can choose a fedora that fits by making sure the inner rim fits snugly around your head.
Next, consider matching your fedora to the main color of your clothes. You have to ask yourself, Would it really be fitting to wear an all-black outfit topped with a brown fedora?
A classic black fedora is a great color to have, especially in the winter, but if worn again and again plain black can become dull. Ladies, try pinning a shiny brooch or a craft-store peacock feather on the side. For the men, keep your fedora style simple and classic.
To wear your fedora with different style, tilt it to one side. This doesn’t mean shift the position, simply angle it.
Britney Spears is another celebrity who knows how to wear a fedora with style.
I saw Britney in concert in 2011 for her Femme Fatale tour in Sacramento, California. Every backup dancer on stage, including Britney, was wearing a white fedora. Seeing her and her dancers perform in such unison brought me back to the 90s where Britney became first known for rocking a fedora.
One way to incorporate a fedora into your wardrobe would be to wear a neutral-colored fedora with blue jeans and a crisp white blazer is the perfect day-to-day combination. If you want to switch it up with a colored fedora, try donning black pants and a tuxedo blazer. If you want to go with the classic black fedora, try neutral pants with a colored jacket.
If you’re feeling bold, why not wear a white fedora with white pants and a bright blazer?
A fedora made out of straw with a colored band wrapped around the hat is perfect for sweet summer look.
Take cues from your own unique and personal style. Yes, it’s exciting to buy a new hat, but that doesn’t mean go style-crazy because you’re about to wear it for the first time. Under do it instead of over-doing it, and you’ll make the best-dressed list every time.
