The University of Idaho women’s soccer team welcomed students, alumni and community members to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome on Thursday night for a Homecoming matchup against Utah Tech. Despite creating several offensive opportunities, the Vandals were unable to find the back of the net, and the contest ended in a 0-0 draw.

While neither team managed to score, the match provided plenty of action on the field and energy in the stands. Nearly 900 fans attended the game, making it one of Idaho’s highest-attended matches of the season.

The university also incorporated Homecoming festivities into the event, hosting its “Most Vandalized Fan” and “Yell Like Hell” activities. Student groups showcased Vandal-themed outfits and competed through spirited school chants, while the presence of Greek life helped bring additional excitement to the Kibbie Dome.

Idaho entered Thursday’s contest looking to use its home-field advantage against a competitive Utah Tech team. The Vandals wasted little time creating offensive pressure, recording three shots during the opening eight minutes as they attempted to establish control of the match.

Sophomore forward Mia Boltz helped lead the early attack with a shot in the second minute. Payton Oelkers followed with an attempt less than a minute later as Idaho continued looking for an early breakthrough.

The Vandals maintained their offensive pressure throughout the match, finishing with an 11-7 advantage in total shots. Idaho also recorded five corner kicks compared with Utah Tech’s three, giving the Vandals additional opportunities to challenge the Trailblazers’ defense.

Despite Idaho’s statistical advantage, neither team could convert its chances into a goal. Both defenses held firm throughout the opening half, keeping the match scoreless heading into the break.

The second half continued in a similar fashion, with Idaho searching for a breakthrough while Utah Tech worked to limit the Vandals’ attacking opportunities. Although Idaho generated more shots and corner kicks, the Trailblazers remained organized defensively and prevented the home team from taking the lead.

As the match progressed, the Vandals continued to push forward in search of a winning goal. However, Utah Tech’s defensive resistance proved difficult to overcome, and Idaho could not capitalize on its offensive advantage before the final whistle.

The result moved Idaho to a 7-3-5 overall record and a 1-1-3 mark in conference play. Utah Tech left Moscow with a 7-6-3 overall record and a 3-2-2 conference record.

Although the Vandals were unable to secure a victory, their advantage in shots demonstrated their ability to create opportunities against a challenging opponent. The next step will be turning those chances into goals as the team continues its push through conference play.

Thursday’s match also highlighted the importance of the support surrounding the program. With nearly 900 fans in attendance, the Homecoming crowd provided a strong atmosphere for the Vandals as they competed in front of students, alumni and families.

The combination of Homecoming activities and a competitive conference matchup gave the evening significance beyond the final score. While the Vandals would have preferred a win, the crowd’s energy helped create a memorable setting for the team and its supporters.

Idaho will have another opportunity to compete at home Sunday, Oct. 25, when the Vandals host their Senior Night. The match will recognize the team’s graduating players as they approach the end of their collegiate careers.

With conference play continuing, Idaho will look to build on its offensive production and find ways to finish scoring opportunities. The Vandals have demonstrated an ability to generate chances, but converting those opportunities will be important as they pursue their postseason goals.

As the season moves forward, the team will aim to carry the energy from Thursday’s Homecoming crowd into its next match. Senior Night will provide another opportunity for the Vandals to compete in front of their home supporters while working toward a strong finish to the season.

The Vandals next test will be up against Southern Utah on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
