As part of the construction of the new East City Park Stage, the city of Moscow has opened submissions for a new mural to be painted on the site, with submissions closing Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. The mural’s theme is “community-made,” with the Moscow City Council and the Moscow Arts Commission saying it reflects how the first East City Park Stage was built in 1983 by volunteers.
According to the press release, the mural will be painted on the stage structure as well as the attached bathroom structure at 900 E 3rd St. The stage itself will be constructed in 2026-2027 with construction beginning on Oct. 8 according to another press release from the city.
The city is looking for resumes and art portfolios from artists 18 and older who live in Idaho or Washington, with the city saying precedence may be given to those living in Latah or Nez Perce County, those who are a Nez Perce or Cour D’Alene tribal member or those who have a significant Idaho economic presence. Lesser precedence may be given to those who live in Whitman or Asotin County in Washington.
After Nov. 17, four finalists will be selected and given $1000 to create a site-specific design. The artist who will design the final mural will be selected from these four finalists and will have a $24,000 budget.
To submit an application, see the City of Moscow Arts and Culture cite.
