The Idaho Vandals continued their 2026-27 women’s golf season with a 10th-place finish at the Kalispell Invitational in Spokane, Washington. Idaho finished the three-round tournament 40-over par. The tournament gave the Vandals another chance to compete against 14 teams and gain more experience early in the season.
The Kalispell Invitational was held at the Kalispell Golf and Country Club and included three rounds over two days. The course was a par-72 and measured 6,037 yards. Idaho entered the tournament after opening its season at the Wolverine Invitational in Utah.
Junior Laura Caamaño led the Vandals, finishing tied for 15th at 4-over par. Caamaño started the tournament with a 2-over 74 and shot another 2-over round in the second round. She finished strong with an even-par round in the final round. Her total score for the tournament was 220.
Junior Ella Kozak was the next Idaho player on the leaderboard, finishing tied for 32nd at 9-over par. Kozak got off to a strong start, shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round. She then shot a 5-over 77 in both the second and third rounds. She finished the tournament with a total score of 225.
Sophomore Diya Brar finished close behind Kozak, tying for 34th at 10-over par. Brar started with a 7-over 79 but improved in the second round, shooting an even-par 72. She finished with a 3-over 75 in the final round for a total score of 226.
Senior Zoe Newell was the fourth Idaho player whose score counted toward the team total. Newell finished tied for 59th at 17-over par. She shot a 6-over 78 in the first round, a 5-over 77 in the second round and another 6-over 78 in the final round. Her total score was 233.
Idaho also had two freshmen compete as individuals. Tang-Hsin Hou finished tied for 55th at 16-over par, while Fjola Vidarsdottir finished tied for 72nd at 24-over par. Since they competed as individuals, their scores did not count toward Idaho’s team score.
The Vandals finished the tournament with a team score of 40-over par. Idaho finished just behind Murray State, which took ninth at 39-over par. The Vandals finished ahead of quality competitors Utah Valley, Eastern Washington, UC Riverside and Portland State.
The tournament gave Idaho’s younger players another chance to gain experience against college competition. The team has a mix of younger and experienced players, with freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors all competing throughout the tournament.
After two tournaments, Idaho has several players it can build around as the fall season continues. Caamaño’s top-15 finish was the team’s best individual result at Kalispell, while Kozak and Brar also finished inside the top 35.
While the stats from the Kalispel invite doesn’t quite jump off the charts, the tournament gave the Vandals another chance to compete and see what they need to improve. Caamaño led the team with her strong finish, while the younger players gained valuable experience. Idaho will look to use what it learned as they prepare for their next tournament.
The Vandals next visit will be hosted in Lakewood, Washington at the Pat Lesser Harbottle on Monday October 5-6.
