A resolution to show appreciation and consideration of the construction workers on campus was passed on ASUI’s Sept. 16 senate meeting.
Resolution F26-B02 was passed with the intention to create a positive atmosphere on campus for both the students being delayed by the construction, as well as the construction workers working to improve campus infrastructure, according to the bills wording.
Senate Pro-Tempore Andrea Leal sponsored this bill, and during discussion said, “Their work often requires long hours and challenging conditions, yet it directly contributes to the future of the University of Idaho, and the student experience. Providing a meaningful gesture of appreciation is a simple but significant way to foster a stronger sense of community.”
F26-B02 was passed unanimously, by the eight senators in attendance.
Two bills were passed to improve ASUI internal function, F26-B01, to increase the wage of the senate adjutant, and F26-B02, to renovate the ASUI office. The increase of the senate adjutant is by $168 per month, and for the renovations to the ASUI office, $1000 has been allocated. For the ASUI renovations, all excess funding will return to the ASUI funding board.
In response to a debris avalanche and flash flood that occurred in Nepal on Aug. 26, a resolution has been introduced to acknowledge the students and families impacted by the natural disaster.
“This resolution is imperative for ASUI to pass to show support and solidarity for our peers and their families. Our university is proud to be home to hundreds of international students, many of whom are from Nepal,” said Senator Caroline Crow, who sponsored the bill.
This bill has been referred to the ways and means committee and will be voted on in the next senate meeting.
During presidential communications, ASUI President Lance Butikofer stated that him and VP Alma Azocar Agurto have been holding senate appointment interviews to fill the available four senate seats.
“I can really confidently say we’ve got some really cool candidates that I’ll be able to show to you all,” said President Butikofer.
ASUI Senate meets at 7 p.m. in the Crest room on the 4th floor of the ISUB. Meetings are open to the public.
