After serving as the University of Idaho president for eight years, President Scott Green announced his June 2027 retirement on Wednesday at the 2026 State of the University address.
His journey with the university began when he enrolled at UI as a student, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1984.
After graduating from UI, Green went on to receive a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1989 as well as a successful career in global finance, operations and administration.
Ultimately, his endeavors led him back to Moscow, where he returned to the university as president in July 2019.
In an email sent out to students and faculty, Green noted his gratitude for the work he’s been able to do over his presidency.
“As a loyal alumnus of the University of Idaho, I am grateful to have served this institution in a way I never could have imagined when I first arrived on campus as a student,” Green said.
With eight years of service, Green stands as the longest serving university president since President Richard Gibb, who was in office from 1977-1989 while Green himself was a student here.
In a conversation with Executive Director of Communications and Co-Chief Marketing Officer Jodi Walker, she said Green has “been able to stabilize a lot of things at the university in that time.”
Green’s involvement with the university goes beyond the presidential role. He has also served on the U of I Alumni Association’s national Board of Directors, the College of Business and Economics Advisory Board and on the U of I Foundation Board, along with being a Vandal Scholarship Fund supporter.
To conclude the email sent to students and staff, Green wrote, “Thank you for your partnership, your friendship and your belief in the University of Idaho. I look forward to making the most of the year ahead.”
