In March 2026, The University of Idaho purchased the 20-acre corner lot on Jackson Street and Sixth Street, with the goal of creating “Legacy Crossing” a connection point between the UI campus, and the Moscow Community.
Though there is no intent to break ground on the corner lot, University initiatives such as Illuminate Idaho, and Vision 2050, have been looking towards developing and expanding university outreach throughout the city Moscow, as well as, “reinforcing the university’s long-term investment in its home in the Palouse,” according to the Illuminate Idaho webpage.
The Illuminate Idaho webpage also has a section on “Moscow Silos,” stating that “The downtown Moscow Silos property represents an upcoming development opportunity at the end of campus.” In an email conversation, Jodi Walker, UI communications director, stated that, “In regards to Sixth and Jackson, there are no plans at this point.”
Vision 2050, another University growth program was proposed in the fall of 2024, with the goal of improving development on the UI campus over the next 25 years. This includes distinct zones of campus, connection to the Moscow community as well as updating and renovating older buildings.
The 652 S. Jackson St. property was a $1.625 million purchase, which aligns with the current UI long-range campus development plan. Recently, the University has painted iconography onto the side of the silo, displaying that development may be arriving quicker than expected.
