Following another competitive weekend, the Idaho Vandals track and field team delivered an impressive showing in Pullman, Washington, putting together a dominant performance at Washington State University’s Mooberry Track. Under clear blue skies, the Vandals captured 10 meet victories and showcased their depth across both track and field events, continuing to build momentum as the outdoor season progresses.

The meet was highlighted by several standout individual performances, including a season-best effort from senior Tyler Graff in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Graff’s race set the tone early for the Vandals, as he powered through the field with confidence and control.

His performance not only secured a victory but also demonstrated his consistency and leadership as one of the team’s veteran athletes. On the women’s side, freshman Naomi Taylor delivered one of the most exciting performances of the day in the 200 meters.

Taylor crossed the finish line in 26.53 seconds, shaving more than a tenth of a second off her previous season best set earlier this month. Her improvement reflects the steady progression she has shown throughout the season and positions her as a key contributor in Idaho’s sprint group moving forward.

The men’s sprint squad also had a strong showing, led by freshman Mateo Ganje, who claimed victory in the 200 meters with a time of 21.64 seconds. Close behind him was sophomore Myron Rethymniotakis, who not only posted a personal record of 21.70 in the 200 but also impressed in his first-ever 100-meter race. Rethymniotakis sprinted to a 10.91 finish, earning second place and turning heads with his versatility.

Freshman Logan Peterson added to the momentum with a personal-best 22.57 in the 200, rounding out a strong day for Idaho’s sprinters. In the 100 meters, the Vandals showed their depth, with multiple athletes placing near the top of the field.

Rethymniotakis led the group, followed by senior Cash Jones, freshman JaRae Long and Ganje, all contributing to a strong overall team performance in the event.

The success extended into the field events, where Idaho athletes continued to dominate. The women’s long jump proved to be a major highlight, as the Vandals swept the top four spots. Graduate student Sydnie Zywina led the way, with strong performances from sophomore Jada Miller and freshman Mara Fuerniss close behind.

All three athletes finished within 25 centimeters of their personal bests, showcasing both consistency and competitive drive. In the throwing events, junior Gioele Tengattini and freshman Kathryn Burnette each secured victories in the shot put for Idaho.

Burnette’s performance helped lead a one-two finish on the women’s side, with sophomore Tesse Kamps taking second after a solid throw of 13.95 meters. The dominance in the shot put emphasized the strength of Idaho’s throwing group and their ability to consistently produce top finishes. Another memorable moment came in the women’s triple jump, where senior Amanda Munoz overcame early struggles to claim victory.

After fouling on her first four attempts, Munoz delivered when it mattered most, soaring to an 11.87-meter jump on her final attempt to secure first place. Her resilience and ability to perform under pressure stood out as one of the most inspiring performances of the meet.

With victories spread across multiple events and athletes stepping up in key moments, the Vandals once again proved their depth and versatility. The combination of experienced leaders and emerging talent continues to drive the team forward as they prepare for the next stage of the season.

Looking ahead, Idaho will aim to carry this momentum into upcoming competitions at the Oregon State Invite and Arizona’s Desert Heat Classic. If this performance is any indication, the Vandals are well-positioned to continue their success and remain a strong force as the outdoor season continues.

The Vandals next meet will be the Oregon State Invite in Corvallis, Oregon, on May 1-2.
