On Friday, Feb. 13, the New York-based dance company Urban Bush Women will be performing “This Is Risk” at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre from 7:30-9 p.m.
“Urban Bush Women is a groundbreaking Black women-led theatrical dance company… founded in 1984 by visionary choreographer Jawole Willa Jo Zollar as an engine and an amplifier for the unheard stories of Black Women+,” reads the flyer distributed for the performance at the Kenworthy. “UBW combines revolutionary performance, deep-healing community engagement, and ancestral knowledge from the African diaspora into a cultural force that is urgent, forward-looking and essential.”
The performance will feature works both old and new to the dance company, according to the Urban Bush Women’s website. It is part of a broader program organized by the Terry Buffington Foundation and Urban Bush Women that will take place throughout the greater Moscow-Pullman area in February.
Other parts of the program include a workshop held on Feb. 10 and a panel discussion held on Feb. 11 at Washington State University, as well as the Terry Buffington Foundation’s Southern Dinner fundraiser and auction on Feb. 14 at the Courtyard by Marriott Pullman.
More details on the program, as well as tickets for the performance at the Kenworthy on Feb. 13, can be accessed at terrybuffingtonfoundation.org. Tickets cost $10 for students and $25 for general admission.
