Campus Currents: 1/26-2/1

What’s happening at UI this week?

Campus Currents | Riley Helal

Happy Monday, Vandals! The spring semester is in full swing now, and campus is starting to come alive with many fun events happening throughout this week.

Joe’s Closet Day 1 (Tuesday, Jan. 27)

The Career Fair is getting closer— on Wednesday, Feb. 11— so Joe’s Closet has opened up for students needing professional clothes for an interview, a profile photo or something else. On Jan. 27 and 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Vandal Lounge in the ISUB will have free professional clothing for anyone to stop by and look through. Resume reviews and free professional photos will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days. Donations for this event are always welcome and needed. Donations can be dropped off at donation boxes located on the east entrance of the Pitman Center or at the Dean of Students Office in TLC 232. For more information regarding donations, contact Bard Smith at [email protected] or (208)-885-6757.

Renfrew Colloquium (Tuesday, Jan. 27)

The weekly Renfrew Colloquium will continue in the spring semester at the same place and time: on the first floor of the University of Idaho Library from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This week’s presentation will be by William Holly from the Idaho Society of Fellows and is titled “Tourism, Community and American Indian Sacred Land in Northern Arizona.” This event is free and open to all.

John Woo’s “Hard Boiled” (Tuesday, Jan. 27)

The Habibi Institute for Asian Studies presents this classic action film at the Kenworthy from 7 to 9 p.m. Jeff Kyong-McClain, the director of the institute, will provide a short introduction to the film. Admission is free for UI students with a valid university ID and $8 for general admission.

Backcountry Film Festival (Wednesday, Jan. 28)

UI’s Outdoor Program is hosting the 21st annual Backcountry Film Festival at the Kenworthy. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased on the Kenworthy website. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. The Outdoor Program is raising money to support local avalanche center, the Wallowa Avalanche Center and the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center, through ticket and raffle sales.

Therapy Dogs (Friday, Jan. 30)

The start of a new semester can be scary and a bit stressful, so the beloved therapy dogs are back in the UI Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help students ease anxiety and de-stress. Everyone is welcome to drop by whenever and hang out with some furry friends from Palouse Paws.

Sorry for Party Rocking — Pop and EDM Dance Night (Friday, Jan. 30)

This event is a tribute to the 2010s, playing music from that era and mimicking the clubbing scene. From 8 p.m. to just after midnight, this event will take place in the International Ballroom in the Pitman Center. This event is 18+, so a valid ID must be brought to attend. Tickets are $9 and can be purchased online
