What’s happening at UI this week?

Campus Currents | Riley Helal

Happy Monday, Vandals! There are a lot of cool events going on around town this week, and the weather is starting to get nicer. Finals are just a couple weeks away, and then the semester will be over. Have a great last few weeks on campus!

artAbility (Monday, April 21)

The Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development is hosting the artAbility Showcase from 5-7 p.m. in the 1912 Center. This annual event is an inclusive show that displays art created by adults with disabilities. It features pieces by people in the Palouse area who have been working hard in art workshops throughout the year. This event is free and everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served, and some artwork may be available for purchase.

Earth Jam (Tuesday, April 22)

To celebrate Earth Day, the Student Sustainability Cooperative is hosting their annual event, Earth Jam, from 12-3 p.m. at the ISUB Plaza. Listen to live music, eat some local food, adopt a houseplant, screen-print a T-shirt and learn more about sustainability initiatives in the Moscow community.

Make It @ the MILL (Wednesday, April 23)

Graduation season is coming up quickly, and the MILL is hosting a graduation cap decorating workshop in the library from 12:30-4 p.m. Create a unique and personal grad cap that reflects your future and your personality! All supplies will be provided, including colorful paints, markers, glittery embellishments, assorted cut-outs and more.

“Pinocchio” (Thursday, April 24)

Head over to the Hartung Theater at 7:30 p.m. for the opening night of “Pinocchio.” This is a new, fast-paced, story-within-a-story version of the classic “Pinocchio” that everyone knows. Tickets are on sale at www.uitickets.com and range from $6-$26.

KINO Short Film Festival (Friday, April 25)

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the KINO Film Fest from 3-9:30 p.m. at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center. The two-day festival features short films from independent filmmakers across the PNW. Friday will encompass a fun throwback screening of student films while giving awards for the top films of the festival. Saturday’s programming will include a premiere of “Snail Hunter,” a documentary, and a special presentation of the Trailblazer Award. SCB Pollinator Garden Volunteer Event (Saturday, April 26)

Looking for a volunteering opportunity? Or perhaps you just want to spend some time outside in the nice spring weather. Whatever your reason is, SCB and SCASLA are hosting a volunteer event to reestablish and enhance the pollinator garden. Join them from 12-3 p.m. across the Greenway next to the University of Idaho soccer fields. Gardening tools, snacks and water will be provided.

Lavender Masquerade (Saturday, April 26)

Join the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Alliance for this colorful dance and celebration of spring. The event will be hosted in the Vandal Ballroom of the Bruce Pitman Center from 6-8 p.m. Food, drinks, music and a photobooth will be available. The dance is semi-formal with a theme of “spring flowers.” Think butterflies, flowers, lavender, gold and sage green colors for your outfit. There is a $5 entrance fee for attendees that will go toward supporting the club and funding their ability to put on more events like this.
