Idaho Volleyball ended their senior night on a low note. Falling to the Montana Grizz in three straight sets. The team has had limited success in past seasons, with this year being an improvement from the past. Heading into their final three matchups of the season, the team sits at 1-23 and 0-7 in conference play. However, there have been improvements as the team has already tied their set win total from last season with six.
Julia Dickeson was the lone bright spot for the Vandals with a career high 10 kills and 3 digs. Natalia Wielgus led the team with 16 assists and Emma Paterson, who returned from sickness/injury, led the team with 4 blocks.
After abuse allegations from Head Coach Chris Gonzalez ended with his departure from the team at the beginning of the year, the Vandals found their new coach relatively quickly in Head Coach Romana Redondo Kriskova. Kriskova has been honest about the team this season.
“One thing I appreciate is that they’re still fighting even though it’s been a tough season,” said Coach Kriskova in an interview with the Argonaut earlier in the season. The team has battled staffing turnover and injury and sickness for most of the season. With staffing issues in their hindsight, the team seems to be heading in the right direction.
The five seniors who graduate before the school year’s end are Lauren Arnold, Taylor Brickey, Emma Paterson, Rana Kamis and graduate student Maya Carmichael.
The Vandals will head to Cheney to take on Eastern Washington this Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ or tickets can be purchased here.
