The Latah County Fair is being held at the county fairgrounds from Sept. 12-15. This year’s theme of “Dreams of Purple and Gold on the Palouse” is about the hopes of winning the Best of Show ribbon for each competition.
This year’s fair features more than 15 different shows including multiple 4-H categories, costume contests, baking competitions, art exhibits and more. Outside of the competitions visitors can enjoy rides and attractions.
One of the specialty shows this year is the 9th annual Huckleberry Battle, where contestants must make cupcakes with huckleberries as the star ingredient. The judging will be based on looks, originality and the creative use of the berries.
The competition is sponsored by Home and Harvest Magazine and the grand prize winners in the adult and youth competition will be featured with their recipes in an upcoming issue.
The carnival is provided by Midway West Amusements with rides, games and attractions. For $30 visitors can buy wristbands for unlimited access to rides and attractions for one day of the fair. Featured rides this year include the Yo Yo, Zero Gravity, Carousel and the Zipper.
Live music and entertainment will take place on the main lawn and entertainment stage. Music on Thursday starts at 1:30 p.m. with the Moscow High School Rock Band and ends with the John and Rand Band at 7 p.m. Music and entertainment will continue all day Friday and Saturday featuring multiple local bands and theatre groups.
The fair’s hours begin Thursday at 5:45 p.m. with the opening ceremony and parade of market champions. At 8 a.m. on Friday, the exhibits and competitions will begin, and the carnival will open at 3 p.m. with all rides and exhibits closing by 10 p.m.
