ASUI wraps up the fall semester with resolutions honoring departing members

Senate allocates funds for office supplies and Instagram giveaway

This week’s ASUI meeting was the last meeting of the fall semester. There were many resolutions regarding the leaving ASUI members, thanking them for their dedication all semester.  

The first bill that was discussed was old business, Senate Bill F23-B15, an act allocating $250 for food and resource supplies in the ASUI office. 

 This bill sponsored by Senator Trachimowicz states that the senate shall transfer $250 from the ASUI Senate Allocation Budget to cover the cost of providing semi-permanent snacks, food, and candy in the ASUI office.  

Any leftover funds will be put back into the senate budget and any leftover food will be donated to the Vanda Food Pantry. This bill was passed unanimously.  

The next order of business was introducing new business. The first new business was Senate Bill S23-B16, an act allocating $110 for the purchase of Beats headphones for the ASUI January Instagram giveaway.  

Authored by Senator Scrupps and sponsored by Senator Smith, this bill states the Senate shall transfer $110 from the Senate Allocation Budget to cover the cost of Beats headphones, shipping, and taxes.  

Any leftover funds will be put back into the Senate budget. This bill was passed with an overall vote. 

The next resolution was Senate Resolution F23-R12 authored by Pro Tempore Emma Johnston, and sponsored by Emily Scrupps, which is a resolution thanking Senator Dosa Nappo for his time in the ASUI senate.  

This resolution states that Senator Nappo was a valued member of the ASUI team and will be missed. He worked tirelessly to better the student experience at the University of Idaho.  

He worked to bring more funding toward purchasing calculators for the Polya Lab. He ensured that students had access to reusable cups at all campus concession stands.  

He has worked to help the students’ voices be heard and represented in all areas of campus. This resolution passed with an overall equal vote.  

The next resolution was Senate Resolution F23-R13 authored by Senator Schneider and Senator McCulloch sponsored by Pro Tempore Johnston, a resolution thanking Senator Aneesha Shrestha for her time in the ASUI senate.  

This resolution states that Senator Shrestha was instrumental in promoting the Rave Guardian app to students, and filled her position with great professionalism and drive, and the senate of associated students of Idaho thanks Senator Shrestha for her dedication and service during her term.  

This resolution passed with an overall vote. 

The next resolution was F23-R14 authored by Vice President Loffer and Director of Academic Affairs Hobbs, sponsored by Senator Shrestha. It was a resolution to thank Chief of Staff Olivia Niemi for her service to the University of Idaho Students.  

This resolution states Oliva Niemi has gone above and beyond to uphold ASUI values and enhance the student experience at the University of Idaho. Niemi’s organization and dedication helped to ensure ASUI ran as smoothly as possible.  

The Senate of ASUI commends Niemi for her work and long-lasting impact on the ASUI Academic Affairs Officer and wishes her well in the future. This resolution passed with an overall vote of yes.  

The next resolution was Senate Resolution F23-R15 authored by Senator Zurcher, and sponsored by Senator Smith, a resolution thanking the director of community Ella Weber for her service to the University of Idaho. 

This resolution states Weber had been one of the most competent, dedicated ASUI members for the student body, always willing to delegate tasks and opportunities, and she has been a wonderful mentor and idol for all those in ASUI. 

Weber and her passion will be missed in ASUI and at the University of Idaho. ASUI wishes her the best in Washington D.C. and all her future endeavors. This resolution was passed.  

The next resolution was Senate Resolution F23-R16 by Director of Parking and Transportation Divyansh and Senator Palak, sponsored by Senator Stampfli, a resolution thanking Sameer Mankotia for his services in the ASUI and the University of Idaho.  

This resolution states Sameer put his full effort into every single project that he was a part of, tried to get involved as much as possible in ASUI, always helped out others, and tried to get everyone more involved.  

Let it be resolved that Sameer has been a very dedicated person and idol for many. His dedication to helping International Students whether working with IPO or with organizations has always been amazing. 

This resolution passed. 

The last resolution, Senate Resolution F23-R17, authored by Senator Scrupps, and sponsored by Senator Nappo was a resolution thanking Pro Tempore Johnston for a successful and respectable term in office.  

This resolution states Pro Tempore Johnston has handled her position with respectable leadership, driven passion, and an encouraging demeanor that has positively impacted the entirety of ASUI.  

Pro Tempore Johnston spoke on a resolution in support of raising awareness for Domestic Violence Prevention Month worked to increase awareness for students’ mental health and many more.  

Pro Tempore Johnston is respected on and off campus for her attention to detail, her advocacy for Vandals, her awareness of needs, and her creative mindset. She leads with respect, compassion, and encouragement in everything that she does. 

Pro Tempore Johnston will be missed on the Senate floor, but she will do amazing on the next step in her journey. This resolution was passed unanimously.
