The Idaho Vandals beat the Utah State Big Blue 70-43 early Wednesday morning.

Senior guard Amalie Langer had 16 points on 6/8 shooting while Sarah Schmitt, also a senior guard, finished the game with eight assists and three steals. The Vandals’ individual performances were part of a concentrated team effort to get the win in Logan, Utah.

The Vandals needed a win after falling to Utah Valley at home on Saturday.

“More than trying to pull off the win against Utah State, it’s trying to continue making progress,” Head Coach Carrie Eighmey said in a press conference on Monday.

Eighmey is in her first season with Idaho and is focused on making sure the team is ready for conference play, which will start on Dec. 28 for the Vandals.

Idaho’s defense held Utah to 0/9 from three-point range and just 32.7% from the field. Utah’s Cheyenne Stubbs led the Big Blue with 13 points, the only Utah player to reach double figures.

The outcome was never in doubt, as Idaho outperformed Utah in every category.

Utah’s Bridget Mullings scored first to give the Big Blue their only lead of the game, which lasted until Idaho’s first bucket two minutes in.

This dominant showing makes Idaho 4-2 on the season. The team will return to Moscow to play Texas A&M – Commerce on Friday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
