Vice President Loffer presented many new resolutions and bills at the latest ASUI meeting, which were all passed with an overwhelming majority by all senators.

The first bill discussed was S23B10 about using $30 of the senate budget to get a cooler and otter pops at a table in the ISUB. The purpose of the table is to educate students on the new campus safety app, “Rave Guardian.”

Senator McCulloch is the sponsor of the bill and shared what she would like to do with the money and how the new app will be beneficial for the campus.

“The app Rave Guardian allows access to campus safety resources and increases security for all students. Through tabling in the ISUB we can increase awareness for the app and encourage students to download.” McCulloch said.

The app will allow students to call the directory and anonymous reporting channels about issues across campus. The bill was passed with a majority vote from all senators. The next resolution that was discussed was F23R06 discussing bird scooters around campus.

Senator Scrupps sponsored this bill, she says that she “loves them they are great forms of transportation and of course, they are affordable.” This resolution passed with a majority vote once again.

The next resolution that was discussed was S23R07 which was to table near the Kibbie Dome to get students information about election day and how students can register to vote. This bill was amended due to not having citations but it will be amended in the future.

The next resolution that was proposed to senators was F23R08. This encourages the entire student body to attend the Coats for Vandals event held every year run by the IFL office.

This event takes place on Nov. 16, Senator Schnider sponsored the event. “It prepares students for the cold winters we have here and to spread awareness of the event to those students who need coats,” Schnider said.

This resolution was passed with a majority vote again. Resolution F23B11 is similar and in coalition with R08, also sponsored by Senator Schnider this resolution asks for 300 dollars taken from the senate budget. This money would be used for buying coats to use for the coat drive for students who are less fortunate. Whatever money is leftover would be put back into the account and the leftover coats would be donated to the UI food pantry. This passed with flying colors with a majority vote.

The next resolution F23R09 proposed donating your used Halloween costumes to the Halloween Drive. Senator Scrupps and Pro Tempor Johnston sponsored this resolution.

“Over 35 million costumes are thrown away and added to the 11.3 million tons of landfill all over the world,” Scrupps said.

This resolution was first amended for not having sources cited but still passed with a majority vote.

The last resolution is S23B12 which is taking 50 dollars out of the funds to serve hot chocolate to the student body to get to know the ASUI team. Senator Scrupps and Pro Tempor Johnston sponsored this resolution and was passed with a majority vote.
