New members of the ASUI cabinet were chosen and announced this Wednesday, and more information on the members will be coming soon.

The senate elections for ASUI are coming up and there are 12 candidates running this year with only five spots open. There will be forums coming up where candidates can debate and discuss their policies and positions.

Four new bills were introduced. The first bill, F23-R04 is ASUI’s endorsement for three candidates running for the Moscow City Council. Bryce Blankenship, Drew Davis, and Sandra Kelly were the candidates ASUI members chose after conducting a forum with all the potential members.

Three seats are open for the Moscow City Council and voting is on November 7.

“There are many great candidates that are running for city council, and it was a tough decision only to endorse three,” Senator Dosa Nappo said, who is sponsoring the bill. “Each of these candidates are strong in their areas, but they are sure to look out for the best interests of our vandal students and the Moscow community.”

The next bill, F23-R05, is an initiative to get the University of Idaho to recognize October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“There is a very high likelihood that we have a very large percentage of our student body that has been affected or knows someone who is affected by domestic violence,” Senator Emily Scrupps said, who is sponsoring the bill. “They may be seen or unseen, heard or unheard, but no matter how expressive these students are, comfort and awareness should be given to these individuals.”

Bill S23-B08 is an initiative to allocate 50 dollars from ASUI to purchase materials to market scholarship resources to students in order to make students more aware of opportunities they may have. While Bill S23-B09 is an initiative to allocate 50 dollars to purchase materials for a table to create awareness about how to support and create a student club.

Vice President Peyton Loffer also discussed the possibility for shuttles to the Washington State Basketball game on November 6th to encourage students to attend the game.
