Heading into week seven of the college football season, the Vandals sit among the top of the FCS and are currently ranked #3 in the nation, led by their dominant rushing attack to start the season.

Anthony Woods is the main guy to thank if you’re an Idaho fan, as the sophomore running back has had an incredible start to the season. He leads the Big Sky Conference in rushing yards with 662 yards on his 2023 campaign.

Woods had a career day on Sept. 30 against Eastern Washington where he rushed the ball 23 times for 211 yards and became the second Vandal to ever have 5 or more rushing touchdowns in one game.
“Shoutout to the line.” Anthony Woods said. “For them blocking and always opening up holes for me…it felt good to rush for 211 and to get to have my first college 5 touchdown game.”

Woods’ 211 yards helped Idaho defeat Eastern Washington 44-36 to become 2-0 in conference play and 4-1 overall.

Woods is currently seizing the most of his starting role, averaging 110.3 yards per game this season. He has 10 rushing touchdowns with an average of 6.7 yards per carry, one of the best for qualified rushers in the Big Sky.

He leads the RB group that also includes senior running back Nick Romano, who Woods praised alongside of the O-line from last week.

“I feel that when I come out and Nick goes in, he will get the job done.” Woods said. “We feed off of each other’s energy, and it really helps us get it going fast.”

Anthony Woods and the Idaho Vandals’ next opponent is Montana, which currently has a 5-1 record and are 2-1 in Big Sky play. The Vandals’ offense is looking forward to keeping their dominant rushing game alive.

“We’re just focusing on ourselves. So just getting better and getting the little details down so we can be a good team in the long run.” Woods said before Idaho’s game against Cal Poly.
