Moscow community members, UI JAMM, and Moscow Film Society gathered at the Kenworthy theatre Wednesday, October 4th, to watch their showing of IT for Wicked Wednesdays.

At the beginning of the semester, JAMM students select which movies they’d like to show in October so they can immediately begin marketing, getting sponsorships, and making the trailers to advertise each movie. It’s the second ever Wicked Wednesday put together by UI students. It started last year to help financially support the Kenworthy and bring more people in for movies.

For $8 every Wednesday during October the Kenworthy will show a new scary movie picked by UI JAMM students. Going forward, the Kenworthy will present Candyman, Shaun of the Dead, and The Exorcist.

Last week’s movie event featured sponsorships and prizes from Grubtruck, The Breakfast Club, Walmart, and more. Those who bought tickets online were automatically entered in a raffle to win free or discounted meals, Halloween gift baskets, and 2 tickets Amelie presented by UI.

Nakell Higbee, a UI JAMM student helping put Wicked Wednesdays together mentions how posters of each movie are sold at the Kenworthy on Wednesdays. All the money raised from the posters goes back to the Kenworthy as a thanks for allowing students to participate in a fun class project.

Students dressed as Pennywise the clown from IT were outside the theatre promoting the movie, talking to other students, and taking pictures with people seeing the movie. The theatre was full, and the audience laughed, got scared, and gasped in unison as the movie played.

Higbee encourages students to come see the Wicked Wednesday’s movies, “Just come and enjoy a fun movie with the fun community!”
