University of Idaho Students and the Moscow community can celebrate the end of summer and the start of a new school year with a jam-packed weekend of country music, food and entertainment at the Summer Country Showdown Aug. 25 and 26 at the ICCU Arena.

The country artists performing includes country music legend Neal McCoy, Jake Owen and up-and-coming star Hailey Whitters, among six others. There is sure to be something for every country music fan. Tickets for a two-day pass to see every artist are still available and can be purchased online

The two headliners for this weekend, Neal McCoy and Jake Owen, are both household names for country music fans, and the opportunity to see these stars in Moscow is an opportunity no students will want to miss.

McCoy was topping country charts throughout the 90’s, and some of his biggest hits include “If I was a Drinkin’ Man” and “Going, Going, Gone.”

Throughout his career, Jake Owen has swung from country party anthems to heartbreak ballads. Some of his most loved songs include “Barefoot Blue jean Night” and “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You”.

The rest of the country music lineup for the Summer Country Showdown includes names like Due West, Colby Acuff, RaeLynn, Thompson Square, Hailey Whitters and Shenandoah.

There will also be two songwriter rounds on Saturday where writers will sit on stage together and take turns playing their songs and then telling the stories behind them. This unique opportunity allows attendees to hear the original versions of some of their favorite songs and learn more about the creative process behind writing a country music hit.

Along with back-to-back concerts and musical entertainment, the event will also have a host of delicious food vendors for attendees to enjoy. The list of local food trucks that will be present includes The Spud Shack, Deeney’s Ice cream, Big Shrimpin and Bangers and Love Shack Kitchen.

The event will have alcohol available for purchase, but all ages are welcome and the concert is family friendly.

The festival doors open at 3 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday for two full days of country music celebrations.
