Parent and Family Weekend Spring 2023: What to expect 

Paid and free events will be taking place throughout the weekend

This semester’s Parent and Family Weekend, hosted by the University of Idaho Student Alumni Relations Board, is jam packed with fun activities and events for students to attend with their parents and families. There is something happening every day from April 14-16 and there is an event or activity for everyone. 

Vandal Football and Trophy Photos 

Vandal students and families can capture fun memories and celebrate Vandal football on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. in front of the Vandal Store. Everyone is welcome to stop by for a free photo with the Vandal football team, head coach Jason Eck and the Little Brown Stein trophy won this past season. 

Guided Paint Night 

The Residence Hall Association is hosting a guided paint night for students and families this Friday. This free event is happening from 4–5:30 p.m. in the Wallace Eatery and is a fun way to connect and explore your artistic side. 

Free Family Climb 

The Student Rec Center and the Climbing Center will be opening their doors for parents and family members from Friday to Sunday. Family members over the age of 18 are invited to join Vandal students at the rec center for free access to the climbing wall and other facilities. 

Cornhole Tournament 

Vandal families have a chance to compete against each other on Saturday with the Spring Vandal Family Weekend Cornhole Tournament. The competition starts at 11 a.m. on the Tower lawn and the cost is $15 per team to play. 

Arboretum Tour 

Families and students can get out in nature and explore the beautiful UI Arboretum on Saturday with the Arboretum walking tour. The tour will begin at 11 a.m. and those interested in enjoying the spring weather and scenery are to meet at the North Gate of the Arboretum near the UI Golf Course. 

Golf Pro Clinic 

For those looking to up their golf game, there will be a one-hour golf pro clinic happening on Saturday that students and families are welcome to attend. From 1:30–2:30 p.m., UI’s golf pros will be leading this beginner clinic at the UI Golf Course. The cost is $20 per person and the clinic will include an introduction to golf as well as driving range time. 

Dueling Pianos and Dinner 

From 5:30–8:30 p.m. on Saturday, students and families are invited to enjoy an exciting night that includes a dueling pianos performance and a meal. The event costs $45 per person to attend and will be held in the Pitman Center International Ballroom. 

Parents and Plants 

There will be two sessions of this fun and interactive event on Saturday; Vandal students and families can join SARB at the Sixth Street Greenhouse at either 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. to explore their green thumbs and connect with other Vandal families. 

Send-off Breakfast 

Students and families can end the weekend on a high note with the send-off breakfast at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the Pitman Center. The is $15 per person for this grab and go breakfast that families can enjoy with students before heading back home. 

Students and families have no shortage of exciting activities and events to keep busy this Parent and Family Weekend. From cornhole tournaments to dueling pianos to painting, there is something for every student and family member to enjoy.
