Argonaut staff picks for Super Bowl LVII

For the third time in four years, the Kansas City Chiefs are back in football’s biggest game. The Philadelphia Eagles are back for the first time since their Super Bowl LII win in 2018. This will be the first time in history that two Black quarterbacks will be taking the snaps as Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts line up for the Chiefs and Eagles respectively.

Kansas City finished at the top of the AFC going 14-3 in the regular season. Philadelphia finished with the same record to come out at the top of the NFC. The Chiefs beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-20 and the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in the playoffs to get to Arizona. The Eagles blew out the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers (granted the 49ers didn’t have a quarterback for most of the game) 38-7 and 31-7 respectively to land their spot in the Super Bowl.

For those that want to put money on tomorrow’s game, here are the picks from some of the staff at the Argonaut to help make an informed decision.

Jim Niedbalski | Student Media Advisor

“Eagles 23-20.”

Jayden Barfuss | Sports writer

“Eagles 28-24.”

Grace Giger | Life Editor

“My money is on the Chiefs – Mahomes carried my fantasy team this year.”

Ricky Simmons | Photographer

“Chiefs over Eagles, and that it will be a low scoring game, 21 to 14.”

Connor Anderson | Multimedia Editor

“26-20 Kansas City because I think they have a more well-rounded offense and stronger defense than the Eagles.”

John Keegan | Photographer

“Eagles for the dub, Washington Commanders for close second.”

Mark Warren | ArgTV Producer

“I think that while the Eagles are the more talented team, I trust the more experienced Chiefs to win this one. Andy Reid will beat his former team in a 42-38 shootout.”

James Taurman-Aldrich | Sports Editor

“While the Chiefs have been here a lot more times recently than the Eagles, I’m taking Jalen Hurts with Jason Kelce and former Vandal Christian Ellis on his side. Mahomes and the Chiefs will keep it close, but the Eagles will ultimately come out on top 27-24.”
