Four new members will be joining the current crop of ASUI senators.

Senators Kennedy LaFountaine, Daniel Martinez, Josie Gaturutura and Ethan Clemens were sworn in by ASUI President Tanner McClain at the start of the meeting.

Following that, two resolutions were passed by the Senate, with the first thanking both Bruce and Kathy Pittman Emergency Fund, which is aimed to help students in financial struggles.

Sen. Bex Riehm spoke about her experience receiving the Pittman Fund and making it possible to attend the University of Idaho.

“I can’t think of them enough. Without Bruce and Kathy Pittman Fund, I would not be able to graduate this semester or possibly at all,” Riehm said. “When finances are one of the few things that are preventing students from moving forward with their dreams, it’s incredibly discouraging.”

The other resolution was to thank Dr. Sydney Freeman, Yolanda Bisbee and Mario Pile for their work at the BAACC and its one-year anniversary.

“Introducing the BAACC on campus has painted a new beginning for which future generations of black scholars have a safe haven,” Sen. Dosa Nappo said. “Having programs such as the BAACC exists on a campus provided discouraged communities into the Vandal family.”
