Our first print edition of the year, Feb. 2, follows a month of transition in the newsroom. With many familiar faces, we’ve returned with renewed energy and new ideas. Take a look at what’s happening at The Argonaut.

Argonaut Video Team

Taking a step further into modern media, we have established a team to focus more on video production. Led by ArgTV Producer Mark Warren and Assistant Producer Tracy Mullinax, these two broadcast majors hope to set a new precedent at the publication with consistent video content.

The news show, ArgTV, will be released via YouTube and posted to our website every Friday.

Beginning at their high school paper, the Bird Eye News, Warren and Mullinax took off with the publication’s YouTube their freshman year.

“I think all of last year, Tracy and I talked about like, ‘we got to just start making videos again,’” Warren said. “We just didn’t know what to make.”

Their hope for the year – make it bigger.

The team’s goal is to produce not just the weekly news show, but cover sports, make documentaries, video essays and more.

“I think the biggest thing is a platform for students to make something and put it out there,” Mullinax said.

As Journalism and Mass Media students, the pair acknowledge that hands-on experience is key.

“I mean not to knock any classes,” Mullinax said. “But you, I feel like you can only learn so much about this stuff just talking about it.”

Those interested can reach Warren at [email protected]. Check the YouTube, Argonaut Online, out Friday mornings to catch the weekly news show.

Staff changes

Mackenzie Davidson has recently been hired as the new opinion editor, replacing Mark Warren’s previous position. With an interest in environmentalism, Davidson will be bringing new topics to light in her pieces.

Royce McCandless has returned to the team after a semester away in California. Initially having joined the News Section in Spring 2021, he continues to report on Moscow news. He has also joined the staff as assistant copy editor, working with Copy Editor Bradi DuGal.

We are still looking to hire a web editor who would manage the website through WordPress, posting and creating social media content, all while working alongside Digital Director Daniel V. Ramirez.

Next edition

The Argonaut will be publishing our next print paper March 2, though we update uiargonaut.com daily. Within the paper, we will have our Housing Guide insert featuring apartment complexes, dorms and other things to know when moving to Moscow. We hope to help students, especially incoming freshmen, make plans for the next fall.
